Musings.
Today I am feeling disappointed in my country’s legal system. When I heard of the Casey Anthony verdict from across the pond I felt proud to live in a country whereupon if the evidence points directly to a perpetrator, then generally they will be convicted. I feel, having read the evidence, that Casey Anthony was guilty of at least manslaughter, and that the American justice system has failed that poor little girl.
So to hear today’s news of Rebecca Brooks arrest was a bittersweet victory. I am absolutely thrilled that justice will finally be served, particularly considering the damage The News Of The World has caused but genuinely believe that the country has turned a blind eye to previous phone hackings because they were happening to celebrities. I’m not a huge Hugh Grant fan-from what I have read he is very ungrateful with regards to his career, but I fully support his view that journalists should have been brought forward on these charges a long time ago.
Certain stories come to mind, and it begs the question would certain missing people have stood a better chance of being found had News International not abused their influential position? And what else have they been doing in the name of journalism?
I dread to think what else has been going on for all these years.
I think the saddest thing really is that Rebecca Brooks probably won’t get punished as she deserves and the innocent victims will get little or no compensation. Cast your mind back to the Soham murders, and the pitiful £11000 compensation the parents of those poor little girls got.
Everyday we hear more and more horror stories about children being stabbed, countries at war, families losing family, abuse, hatred, violence. Programmes such as “Road Wars” and “Police Interceptors” have risen in popularity because people are so desensitised to the reality of the awful world we live in.
Newspapers used to report actual news, now some celebrity divorce will take the front page, pushing actual global issues to page 4, because god forbid we don’t get to see Melissa’s breasts! Obviously there are still some exceptionally respectable papers in circulation, but many won’t read them. They want the scandal-so is it a massive surprise that TNOTW have gone to such drastic measures? Or is it them pushing the boundaries that has created this scandal craving society we inhabit?
Ahhhh how nice is this??!

So, nights out! Be they girly, manly, impromptu whatever-they follow a pattern.
•Somebody will cry. Somebody always cries. In fact, I’d go as far as saying that if somebody doesn’t cry you are missing a trick. These can be tears over a man, a friend, something somebody has said, an injury, sentimentality - generally always entirely fuelled by alcohol.
•There is always one person who has to get more drunk than everyone else. This is often prior to the previous point.
•Someone will get left out. I hate this point but it is true. I always try to include everyone.
•One person takes the role of Japanese tourist with the Nikon. And most of the photos are largely embarrassing or blurred. And they ALL go on Facebook.
•The really drunk person spends the following day detagging themselves.
I always think that if everyone got home safe then it’s been a good night. Don’t think much of the hangover though!
